Electronic structure of spinel oxides: zinc aluminate and zinc gallate
The electronic structure of zinc aluminate (ZnAl2O4) and that of zinc gallate (ZnGa2O4) were studied by the self-consistent tight-binding linearized muffin-tin orbital method with the atomic sphere approximation. The calculated results predict these zinc-based spinel oxides to be direct-gap materials. The direct gap at 0 is found to be 4.11 eV for ZnAl2O4 and 2.79 eV for ZnGa2O4. With reference...
متن کاملSynthesis and Structure–Property Relationships of Cryogels
Polymeric gels belong to the most important class of functional polymers in modern biotechnology. They are useful materials for drug delivery systems, artificial organs, separation operations in biotechnology, processing of agricultural products, on–off switches, sensors, and actuators. Despite this fact and considerable research in this field, the design and control of gel-based devices still ...
متن کاملSynthesis and optical property of one-dimensional spinel ZnMn2O4 nanorods
Spinel zinc manganese oxide (ZnMn2O4) nanorods were successfully prepared using the previously synthesized α-MnO2 nanorods by a hydrothermal method as template. The nanorods were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, UV-Vis absorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, surface photovoltage spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared...
متن کاملAtomistic Simulation Study of Spinel Oxides: Zinc Aluminate and Zinc Gallate
Stoichiometric zinc aluminate (ZnAl2O4) and zinc gallate (ZnGa2O4) are simulated in the framework of the shell model, for which a new set of two-body interatomic potential parameters has been developed. Using these parameters, a reasonable prediction is made for elastic and dielectric constants of ZnAl2O4 and ZnGa2O4. Both oxides are stable against decomposition to the component oxides. The fit...
متن کاملFormation of copper aluminate spinel and cuprous aluminate delafossite to thermally stabilize simulated copper-laden sludge.
The study reported herein indicated the stabilization mechanisms at work when copper-laden sludge is thermally treated with gamma-alumina and kaolinite precursors, and evaluated the prolonged leachability of their product phases. Four copper-containing phases - copper oxide (CuO), cuprous oxide (Cu(2)O), copper aluminate spinel (CuAl(2)O(4)), and cuprous aluminate delafossite (CuAlO(2)) - were ...
